Food Chains

A very popular workshop where we look into the transfer of energy through nature including playing a game where the children pretend to eat each other and dissecting owl sick!!!

Hearts and Blood

During this session we look at the importance and role of our heart using stethoscopes and will learn what blood is made of with a fun demonstration. There’s even an option to dissect a lamb’s heart!

Taste and Digestion

Children will explore how their senses help them eat safely with a smell test. Following this, will be a delightful demonstration mapping the path of their food through their digestive system... making poo!

Sight

A 'look' at how our eyes work, using demonstrations of pupils, diagrams and...most interestingly...dissecting PIG’S EYEBALLS to understand the different parts and functions of the eye.

Dinosaurs

A very busy session with children living the lives of paleontologists by excavating fossils before making a copy of a T-Rex tooth that they get to take home with them! It's Roar-some.

Plants and Trees

The importance of plants for us can easily be lost amongst more 'Wow' science activities but there's loads of fun stuff in this workshop including funny ways to measure trees and amazing leaf prints.

DNA

Probably Atomic Tom's favourite workshop. A big, hands-on experiment extracting DNA from fruit with a million talking points and possibilities! With a great DNA game in there too!

Slime

We've made over 20,000 pots of slime over the past 10 years...that's how much children enjoy learning about this introduction to chemistry and the atoms that make the world around them.

Kitchen Chemistry

The idea of this workshop is to provide some really good, hands-on activities and explanations that can easily be repeated by raiding the kitchen cupboards at home; flour+water+oil+eggs+salt = a mess!

Bubbles

This is a brilliant workshop to observe, some children seem almost hypnotised! After activities to understand the science behind a bubble we launch into loads of fun experiments building up to Bubble Boss level 5 - tickling the inside of a CUBED bubble without popping it!?

Electricity

This workshop is an introduction to how electricity is actually produced and how electrons behave. We start with static electricity experiments before breaking out the Van de Graaff Generator - it's shockingly good!

Forces

A brilliant introduction to the rules of physics that dictate how we live our lives. With special attention given to gravity using paper helicopters and rides on the hoverboard! (Can also be a joint workshop with Magnets)

Magnets

There's so much to do in the workshop, from an introduction to the basics of magnetism to how we can use it everyday. My personal highlight is always the reaction to the 3D magnetic field demonstrator!

Sound

There's so much going on during this workshop. What is sound? How does it travel? How can we make different sounds? All these questions and many more answered with fun demo's and loads of activities.

Light

This workshop is a great mix of how light is made, where it comes from and also how our eyes use light to give us information about the world around us. There’s also a cool colour experiment. Great for your pupils!

Weather

Borrowing diffraction glasses from the light workshop and the Van de Graaff Generator from the Electricity one this is a 'best bits' workshop studying different weather types and their importance for all of us.

Geology Rocks!

Here we dig down into the crust, mantle and core of the earth that we live on. There are over 50 examples of rocks, minerals and gems for the children to study and even a fun game to remember useful vocabulary.

Stars

A fascinating look at the importance of stars in our lives - not just the twinkly lights at night. We look at relative sizes of objects in space, the life cycle of a star and then the children make their own star maps to keep. Astronomers in the making!

Planets

A closer look at our solar system and how we fit into it. Hilarious mnemonics, planets crashing across the playground and facts that are out of this world!

Working Scientifically

What is science for? Why do we need it and why should we trust scientists? This workshop uses good fun practicals to explore the idea that how we do science is what gives what we discover validity. An important lesson but not lacking the fun stuff!

Detective Science

Forensic scientists and detectives use scientific processes throughout investigations. Here we will interrogate some of those ideas by taking fingerprints and identifying mystery powders. Choosing this workshop is elementary Watson!

Our Precious Planet

An introduction and interactive demonstration which explains the science behind global warming and climate change, leading to discussions and ideas about how we can look after our precious planet.
